Plants don't poop
That's part of
what makes them such an excellent food source. The
environmental damage caused by animal feces is staggering.
So the easiest and most elegant solution is to simply stop eating
animal products. This is not only possible, but
healthy, and it's
getting easier, too. For those who have not heard the word
'
vegan', people who eat no
animal products eat a vegan
diet. The only thing needed to supplement a well-planned
vegan
diet is
vitamin
B12.
In light of certain lawsuits, I'd like
to make some statements I think are
axiomatic:
1. Plants don't poop.
2. It is possible to eat a 100% plant-based (or vegan)
diet, and enjoy excellent health.
Hundreds of thousands of vegans are proof of this.
3. According to some people, concentrated animal feeding
operations (CAFOs) are sources of
pollution in
various parts of the
country.
4.
If everyone ate a 100%
plant-based diet, there would be no concerns about CAFOs. There
would not be any of the environmental concerns that stem from all that
concentrated manure
seeping into waterways. People who live near CAFOs now suffer
from foul smelling air and property values that have gone down to
almost nothing.
5. A different approach is to return to family farming as opposed
to factory farming. This is the approach
advocated by the
No Cafos
website.
Plants on the other hand produce no waste
whatsoever. I feel
better knowing that the
food I eat never produces any feces. People may think animal
feces don't get into the food they eat, but they might want to read the
book
Slaughterhouse,
by
Gail Eisnitz.
Where do you think E. Coli
bacteria comes from?
The bottom line for me is that the environment alone is reason enough
to be
vegan. I
believe animal
agriculture is destroying the quality of
life around us. By eating only a plant-based diet, we can clean
up the earth
much more than most people realize.
